Have you ever seen an eagle soar? Have you ever been told that the sky’s the
limit? Have you ever had the opportunity to give to someone in need or encour
age someone in distress? Pastor Helen Freeman is a prime example of them all.
She has decided to not only strive, but also accomplish her goals through giving
Pastor Helen Freeman was born on May 27, 1966. She is the youngest of four
children to Rosalee Freeman and the late Randolph Freemans Sr. She is employed with Berkeley County School District,
where she teaches four year olds. She is the mother of two amazing men, Quentin Ravenel and Stephen Freeman. Both of
her children are professional musicians that travel internationally. Her oldest son, Quentin, plays the drums for the band,
“The Very Hypnotic Soul.” The group was formed to raise awareness of domestic violence in remembrance of Emmanuel
A.M.E., Charleston Nine. The band consists of Quentin Ravenel and Friends and Ben Fagan and the Holy City Hooligans.
Furthermore, he was named 2015 Drummer of the Year by the City Press. Moreover, her youngest son, Stephen Freemans
plays the keyboard for Nine Time Grammy Award winner, Mary J. Blige. Pastor Freeman loves her family.
Helen is the recipient of many awards and accolades. She has received the Veteran Affairs Award, Merit Award at
Trident Tech, and was also awarded for her performance in the play “Mahalia”, just to name a few. She has also been hon
ored, along with others, for feeding the homeless shelters and has been acknowledged in The Mt. Pleasant Newspaper for
her stunning performance of “Bev’s Song.”
Pastor Helen Freeman gave her life to the Lord at a very young age in 1981. She matriculated at Morris College
and graduated from the International Seminary in Plymouth, Florida. She is the shepherd of Greater Grace Missionary Bap
tist Church in North Charleston, South Carolina. Furthermore, she has been in ministry for twenty-three years. Pastor Free
man loves the community. She is a self-starter and leader through her volunteer work in the community. She feeds the
women at the homeless shelter. She gives coats to children and adults in the winter months; furthermore, she visits the sick.
She supports the youth in their outside activities. She serves as the choir director of the New Ashley Association; moreover,
she is on the Executive board of the Association, where the moderator is Reverend Nathaniel Robinson Sr. Helen is also a
well-known recording artist that has travelled to many cities singing the gospel.
Today, Helen encourages people to be like an eagle and spread their wings and not just fly, but soar, no matter the
age. She encourages many to follow their dreams, no matter how great, because the sky is the limit. Most importantly, she
continuously reminds others to walk in love and show love, because you never know who is watching.
