A CLOSER LOOK… Karen Zellers Sevier is a classically trained vocalist and pianist with many years of experience in music, dance, and theatre. Karen was introduced to theatrical performances through Encore Theatre in the production Shout Hallelujah, written, directed, and produced, by founder Harold J. Haynes. Other theatrical performances include Ain’t Misbehavin’ and It Ain’t Over Til The Fat Lady Sings (starring role). Karen toured with the stage production, Stop Cheatin' On Gods Time, featuring the late Sean Levert, son of Eddie Levert of the O’Jays and Men At Large and Praise The Lord and Raise The Roof, playwright Celeste Bedford Walker.
Karen is the Founder of No Greater Love Ministries, a faith-based organization whose mission is to bring people of the faith community together annually, to give their support to designated non-profit organizations that provide life-sustaining assistance for persons in the Greater Houston Area. Karen served as Artist in Residency and choreographer for the Sterling Silver Chorale Show Choir at Ross Shaw Sterling Senior High School, Houston I.S.D. For 8 years she served as the Worship Leader at Windsor Village U.M.C. and was the featured vocalist on "Yes I Can" from the release Welcome to the Village by Pastor Kirbyjon Caldwell and the Windsor Village United Methodist Church Mass Choir. Karen was selected as an additional vocalist to sing with the group Kathy Taylor and Favor who was called upon to perform for the promotion party of the Disney production, Lion King, when the production came to the stage at the Wortham Theatre located in Houston, Texas. She also appeared with an ensemble doing background vocals for Grammy Awards winner, country singer-songwriter and actor Lyle Lovett. Added to her credits, are arranging and composing the song "I Live To Worship You" recorded by Lamar Campbell, Kathy Taylor, and an instrumental version recorded by jazz pianist Herman Lee.
In 2007, Karen was invited to perform the National Anthem for the Houston Comets game. She was the 2008 Houston winner of the Women Making A Powerful Difference Through Song Contest presented by Ebony and Jet Magazines along with the makers of Pine-Sol, and was highlighted in both magazines, as well as Readers Digest, and Working Mother to name a few. Karen was invited as a guest performer to sing The National Anthem for The State Firemen's and Fire Marshall's Conference and Convention, Houston Fire Department Memorials, Cadet Graduations, National Honoree and Valor Banquet. In 2010, Karen was the featured worship leader and soloist at the Texas Annual Conference of the United Methodist Church. Karen serves as Event Committee Chairperson and Vocal Director for the Encore Theater. She is the Vocal Director for Exalted Arts Theater and she is currently serving as one of the Music Directors at Covenant Glen United Methodist Church, Dr. Robert E. Childress, Senior Pastor.
Karen is the wife of Ronald Lee Sevier. They have two daughters, Lydia and Naomi. She is the daughter of Ina Kirksey Zellers and Matthew Marshall Zellers (Patsy). She lives her life based on the scripture Jeremiah 29:11, which inspired the song, "I Live To Worship You". She believes that no matter whom you are, where you are, how young or how old, no matter the place in life you may be, no matter how tough the battle, no matter how deep the hurt, God has not forgotten you.
