“When one listens to his lyrics and experiences the spirit of that which encompasses Lee Walker, it is easy to recognize the musical anointing on Walker’s life.”
At the tender age of six, Lee Walker not only loved music but was also extraordinarily gifted compared to the other youth in his age group. His phenomenal talent was confirmed throughout the next few years as he performed for various musical audiences. By the age of nine, many had determined that Walker’s immeasurable musical gifts would set him up to be an indescribable multi-faceted artist headed for world-wide success in the gospel music industry.
For the next eleven years, Walker toured with the Echoes of Glory Singers of Darlington Heights, Virginia. While touring, a passion ignited deep within Walker for ‘expanded’ territories and new heights in gospel music.
In November of 1991, Walker became a member of the legendary Willis Pittman and the Burden Lifters. While touring the country nationally, Walker had the opportunity to network with some of gospel music’s icons such as the late legendary Willie Neal Johnson & The Gospel Keynotes and Robert Blair & The Violinaires. While keeping close connection with his musical mentor Willis Pittman, Walker established relationships with other musical icons like Luther Barnes, whom he later credits for instilling the cornerstones of songwriting with feeling and passion.
Appreciative for the opportunity to offer unto God praise, worship and honor nationally, still a yearning remained to do more. It was then while lying on a hospital bed in 2000, Walker acknowledged and accepted God’s request to begin Lee Walker and Spirit.
As of today, Lee Walker and Spirit, comprised of Walker’s brothers and cousins, have toured much of the eastern United States as well as successfully recorded and released “The Storm Can’t Last Always”, “Spirit Live” and “Reminisce” all of which deliver a series of the gospel passionately celebrating and sharing the glory of God’s Kingdom. In January of 2011, Lee Walker & Spirit appeared on the Bobby Jones Gospel Show. In addition to being nominated for awards such as the Black Essence Music Award and the Newsome Award, they have also performed with many gospel icons of yesterday and today such as Shirley Caesar, The Caravans, The Mighty Clouds of Joy, and Karen Clark Sheard.
With their smooth but powerful harmonies Lee Walker and Spirit are certain to bevheard nationally across radio stations and seen performing on national platforms, identical to their legendary predecessors. Their faithful and dedicated service to the Lord and Savior JesusvChrist will certainly catapult this instrument of praise and worship to heights unknown.
